Exposing New Light

Christ's Second Advent
Christ’s Second Advent

There is a growing trend of today Christians to follow what they call “New Light”, but is this truly “New Light” and truth or are they just traditions of men and just an additional law that have been added to the 10 commandments and the commandments of Christ? If we look at the reasoning behind them, a part of us might understand where they are coming from. We all want Christ to come back and we are all sick and tired of this world and some of us believe that He should have come back already, some say multiple times by now. So why hasn’t He come back by now? Are we doing something wrong? Do we need to try and do things differently? Should we read the Bible in a different way? Are we missing something? Do we need to add something that wasn’t done before? These are all logical questions especially as we know that Christ will come back when His people are ready, Revelation 7:1-3.

We at Righteousness is Love Ministries are not saying that there won’t be any new light, in fact we do. We believe that God will give additional light, and old truths will be recovered, and replaced in the frame-work of truth especially when we are getting so close to the return of our Lord and Saviour. This additional light will be the re-discovering of the old well-established truths based on well-founded principles of the Bible that most of the world is able to search out. God wants everyone to be saved and he wants everyone to have the opportunity to choose for themselves whether they want to be sealed or not. When we say we have new light that no one has heard before, we are limiting God’s power to save. Essentially, we are warning of it as this new light can create a pharisaic attitude to the Gospels.

The Pharisees

Who were the Pharisees? The Pharisees were also caught in this phenomenon of searching for “New Light”. When the Israelites were removed from their promised land by the King of Babylon Nebuchadnezzar they found themselves in a new land and far from their place of worship – the Sanctuary. We believe the question that was on the minds of the leaders during that time was – what were they going to do? How are they going to bring their sacrifices? Will the Messiah come if they do not do these ceremonies? What about my job? How are we supposed to prepare the Jews for the coming of the Messiah? This is where the Jewish priests came up with the idea of the Babylonian Talmud.

The Babylonian Talmud

We don’t want to go into the Talmud too much, but it is important to see how man can react when faced with disappointment. The Babylonian Talmud started when the Jewish people was taken captive to Babylon.  Previously they had been worshiping in a temple or a sanctuary since the time of the Exodus, for about 900 years. From daily worshiping in the Sanctuary to being taken to a strange land and surrounded by strange gods, it is no wonder they were starting to be disappointed. One of the major problems was that the ceremonial system allowed the priests to be paid by either tithes or by eating some of the Sacrificial offerings, they were no longer being paid and they were no longer in control. In this new land there came an opportunity for new leaders to arise, ones who could ‘make sense’ of the situation and ones who could ‘reinterpret’ the laws of God to fit and to suit their new situation. Such situation brought to life a phenomenon of Pharisees and Scribes, who started ‘reinterpreting’ the laws of God so that the Jewish people can live in a foreign land and still be a Jew without the ceremonial laws. Their reinterpretation of the Torah  (Scriptures) gave rise to the Talmud, which ended up superseding the words of the Bible and becoming the authority for Jewish life. The Talmud ended up adding over a 1000 new laws on top of the commands of God, which the Jews had to do in order to be saved. Thus, the Pharisees and Scribes made the Law and words of God of non-effect, Matthew 15:6.

One of Christ’s goal was to show the Pharisees and the people of Israel that they no longer needed to live under the oppressive laws of the Talmud, and that God wants them to be under the Law of Liberty ever since Christ gave it to them on Mt Sinai.

We here at Righteousness is Love Ministries are saddened to see many ‘New Lights’ coming into the Christian scene in this current period when Christ is coming soon. Though they might sound good and logical especially to those who are seeking for Jesus’ return but essentially they are making the Bible of non-effect as well as getting people into a situation of salvation by works. Bear in mind, we are not calling anyone pharisees but here is a call to come back to the simple plan of Salvation that God has laid out in the Bible. The following links will expose some new light trends, but of course we ask that we all read them with humble hearts. The Holy Spirit will lead us if we want to seek the truth and learn what God’s will is for His end time people.
