god-is-loveThe very first deception of Satan ever made, was not just about the law but about the Law Giver and His beautiful character. “Did God actually say that…?” (Genesis 3:1), is a direct attack on the character of God. Satan is putting doubt in our ability to trust God, and His words, we often call this slander and it is cause for a legal dispute. But does Satan start there? No he goes and turns God’s words around and lies to Eve “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5).

Throughout the ages Satan has continued his attack on God’s character, and this is the very reason we have such confusion among faithful believers. In fact, it was the Christ’s main mission when He came to this earth 2000 years ago, to set the name/character of God straight, not to just this earth but throughout the whole cosmos.

John 8:26 I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.”

Here is a beautiful statement that explains how Jesus came to represent the true character of God and how many people who say they worship God end up worshiping the wrong God:

Thousands have a false conception of God and His attributes. They are as verily serving a false god as were the servants of Baal. Are we worshiping the true God as He is revealed in His Word, in Christ, in nature, or are we adoring some philosophical idol enshrined in His place? God is a God of truth. Justice and mercy are the attributes of His throne. He is a God of love, of pity and tender compassion. Thus He is represented in His Son, our Saviour. He is a God of patience and long-suffering. If such is the being whom we adore and to whose character we are seeking to assimilate, we are worshiping the true God. Faith I Live By Pg. 60.

So what happens when we have a false conception of God? The Bible makes it clear, by beholding we become change, 2 Corinthians 3:18. If we see a demanding God that punishes the sinner for their sins and predestines their future, well, we become angry and oppress people and punish them for making mistakes. But if we believe God is Love, 1 John 4:16, we become changed to a beautiful character that is loving, joyful, peaceful, long-suffering, gentle, good, faithful, meek and temperate, Galatians 5:22-23.

The following video series is a beautiful explanation of who God is and how we can truly get to know His beautiful character. We truly recommend seeing the whole series.
